During a guided tour through the exhibition Because the Night, Anna Rosenwasser, Zurich-based LGBT activist, gives insights into the queer party scene in Zurich and beyond. In conversation with Nadine Wietlisbach, director of Fotomuseum Winterthur and curator of the exhibition, she discusses the importance of safe spaces at night.

Anna Rosenwasser is managing director of the Lesbenorganisation Schweiz, which represents the interests of lesbian, bisexual and queer women, is involved in the party JUSO and writes as a columnist about equality, feminism and being queer.

The thematic exhibition Because the Night is dedicated to the motif of night, with all the promise that it holds. Photographic work complexes are used to present nightlife as a realm of freedom, an escapist paradise, a source of entertainment — but also as a safe space within which subcultures and (secret) identities are negotiated outside of the mainstream. Here, the documentation of a sociocultural environment and its political positioning plays just as much of a role as radically personal intimate perspectives.
