Art

Situations - Closure

Fotomuseum Winterthur, Winterthur

In April 2015 Fotomuseum Winterthur launched SITUATIONS, an experimental exhibition format and research laboratory that explores the latest photographic developments fuelled by digital media and culture. From shared online content to the algorithmic vision of seeing machines, from attention economies to expanding global infrastructures and posthuman scenarios, SITUATIONS has investigated the viral nature of the networked image in diverse technical, cultural, social and political configurations.

SITUATIONS/Closure analyses the format and outlines future avenues of research. Moreover, in collaboration with students from the Art Education Curatorial Studies MA programme at Zurich University of the Arts, the cluster will present artistic scenarios that embrace instability, unfinished states and ruptures, thus resisting “closure” and the desire for a universal definition of the photographic.
