Space Travel IV – Frédéric Gabioud, Martin Jacob, Noha Mokhtar
Museum Langmatt, Baden
For the fourth time, the "Space Travel" exhibition series takes the pulse of young Swiss art, presenting current examples in the cellar spaces. The exhibition space has been expanded once again, this time to include the historic laundry space of the Brown family. It was previously used for the studio for art communication, which will be moving to more suitable spaces in Haus Germann from 2020. The step-by-step and temporary opening up of the cellar spaces offers the public new insights into the historic Langmatt ensemble.
"Space Travel" offers a lively and gleefully experimental program that contrasts with the museum’s other exhibitions. Whilst the listed historic living spaces are mainly used to display examples of painting that are internationally well-known, this year’s Space Travel focuses on examples of young Swiss art that transcend genre. These artworks cheerfully test the boundaries of classical genres such as installation, relief, and sculpture, playfully displacing our habits of seeing and the associations we ascribe to materials.
With artworks by Frédéric Gabioud (* 1990, Lausanne), Martin Jacob (* 1989, St-Aubin-Sauges), Noha Mokhtar (*1987, Geneva).
