Specimens 24. Our collections tell all…

Naturéum - Muséum cantonal des sciences naturelles, Lausanne

An exhibition that explores the role of collections in science museums. “Specimens 24.

What role do science and history museums play today? What are the purposes of scientific collections, whether ancient or recent? How to choose what we will preserve for future generations? The “Specimens 24. Our collections tell all…” exhibition showcases scientific collections to question the place and role of these museums in regard with our society’s challenges, through the three fundamental missions of institutions: to remember, to study and to transmit. These three missions are approached by exploring several themes that cut across the collections: the history of sciences, the diversity of nature and the Anthropocene at Palais de Rumine, as well as in the bogs of the Botanical Garden.
