Museum of Contemporary Circumpolar Art
Museum of Contemporary Circumpolar Art, Bern
Museum Cerny is one of the most comprehensive collections of contemporary art from the Arctic, with works by people from the circumpolar regions. It is unique in that it includes works from both sides of the Bering Strait, showing contemporary art of the Inuit and other peoples from the Far North. The art is influenced by their environment, culture, traditions and shamanism. It evolves in different places in different ways and with the available materials, as well as, with increasing use of technical possibilities.
The challenges posed by environmental and climate changes are increasingly being discussed artistically. Some of the works also address the noticeably high environmental pollution in the Arctic Circle and reveal the global connections. This should raise awareness of environmentally friendly measures that will also benefit future generations.
