Dampfzentrum Winterthur, Winterthur
The most extensive and interesting collection of Swiss steam technology housed in an old factory building in Winterthur since 2011.
Numerous volunteers care for and cherish around 500 tons of cultural assets from the time of Switzerland's industrialisation.
On public open days, guided tours are scheduled for 10:00 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. Visitors can take a close look at the machines and take pictures. The volunteers are happy to provide information. In addition, the 24 buckets of the chain dredger from Lake Thun, driven with compressed air by the original steam engine, usually move. Further reciprocating engines and steam turbines will be set in motion; since mid-2020 even the three-cylinder ETH engine from 1899. Some model machines are demonstrated with compressed air or even steam. The majority of the miniature machines were built by Hans Kläy, his daughters donated the almost 100 models to the steam centre.
