Christina Harnisch studied in Bern (at the conservatory and the university), where she earned her soloist diploma under Franz Joseph Hirt, and then the Diplôme de Virtuosité under Eduardo Vercelli in Neuchâtel. She has received various national and international awards, including the Prix de virtuosité Neuchâtel and several study prizes, and continued her training with Yvonne Lefébure in Paris, Louis Kentner in London, Vitalij Margulis in Freiburg im Breisgau, and Bruno Mezzena in Italy. Since then, she has given solo recitals, chamber music performances, and concerts with orchestras in many countries (including the Southwest German Philharmonic, the Schaffhausen Chamber Orchestra, the Bern Symphony Orchestra, the Lucerne Chamber Orchestra, the San Francisco Sinfonietta, the Orquesta Nacional del Perú, the Danube Symphony Orchestra Budapest, among others), which have been very well received by audiences and the press. Her repertoire ranges from Bach to modern composers.
A particular focus is the music of female composers of the 19th and 20th centuries (Cécile Chaminade, Clara Schumann, Fanny Mendelssohn, Grazyna Bacewicz, among others) She performs regularly in many countries, including at the Purcell Room in London, the Konzerthaus in Vienna, and the Tonhalle in Zurich. She also conducts workshops and master classes at universities and conservatories. She has undertaken extensive tours throughout Europe, Latin America, the U.S. (San Francisco, Chicago, Washington, Miami), Asia, China, and Thailand. She undertook an extensive tour of China with concerts at the Forbidden City Concert Hall in Beijing, the Hangzhou Grand Theater, and, among other venues,
. Later, she embarked on a major tour of Latin America with concerts in Peru, Ecuador, and Colombia, where she performed with the Orquesta Nacional del Perú and appeared at the “Festival Internacional de Música Clásica Contemporánea,” among other venues.
This was followed by a major tour of China with Romano Pucci, principal flutist of the La Scala Orchestra in Milan, including a hugely successful performance at the “Oriental Art Center” in Shanghai, where the organizers named the Pucci-Harnisch Duo the best ensemble of the year, and participation in the “Festival della Lingua Italiana” in Bangkok.
In recent years, she undertook a major solo tour of India with concerts in Bangalore, Goa, Kolkata, and Pune; she also toured Thailand, performed at the Tonhalle in Zurich, and appeared as a soloist with the Danube Symphony Orchestra Budapest, performing Cécile Chaminade’s Piano Concerto in Zurich (Jakobskirche), Locarno (Palazzetto Fevi), and Lugano (Palazzo dei Congressi).
Recently, she performed Mendelssohn’s Piano Concerto No. 1 in G minor in Budapest with the Danube Symphony Orchestra Budapest, gave recitals for the Festival de la Francophonie in Poland, with concerts in Warsaw and Toruń, and undertook an extensive tour of Chile, including six solo recitals in Santiago de Chile and Viña del Mar (Fundación de Providencia, Centro Cultural de los Carabineros, Teatro Municipal de Viña del Mar).
For several years now, she has been working with an American manager, Jack Price, with whom she was able to give two solo recitals titled “Great Pianists of the World” in Belleville, Illinois, and St. Louis, Missouri, USA. The program featured works by male and female composers (Chopin, Maria Szymanowska, Felix and Fanny Mendelssohn, Grażyna Bacewicz, Cécile Chaminade, and Debussy). She also performed the Clara Schumann Concerto and the Cécile Chaminade Concerto in Poland with the H. Wieniawski Orchestra in Lublin, and in November 2023, she performed the Clara Schumann Concerto in St. Louis, Missouri, with the University City Symphony Orchestra; in June 2025 she will perform as a soloist in a gala concert at Carnegie Hall in New York and will also perform the Clara Schumann Concerto at Carnegie Hall in April 2026.
She has also participated in various festivals, such as the Piano Festival in Freiburg im Breisgau, the Orbetello Piano Festival in Italy, the Festival Internacional de Música Clásica Contemporánea in Lima, among others, and, as part of the Duo Pucci Harnisch with Romano Pucci, at the Spiez Castle Concerts, the Festival Internazionale Ruggero Leoncavallo in Brissago, the Chamber Music Festival at the Oriental Art Center in Shanghai, and the Festival della Lingua Italiana in Bangkok, among others.
