British Dreams - Zuger Klassik Abo #1

Theater Casino Zug, Zug

Zuger Sinfonietta, Daniel Huppert (conductor) & Andreas Martin Hofmeir (tuba).

At the beginning of the season, the Zug Sinfonietta and chief conductor Daniel Huppert invite you on a trip to Great Britain: With Edward Elgar and Ralph Vaughan Williams, two of the most important English composers are on the program. In his short orchestral work "Dream Children", Elgar tells a poignant story about childhood - with great relevance for adults too.

Andreas Martin Hofmeir brings along a special solo instrument: The tuba! Hofmeir is an exceptional musician and pioneer of his instrument. He is best known as a member of the group LaBrassBanda and professor of tuba at the Mozarteum in Salzburg. Together with the orchestra, he will perform Ralph Vaughan Williams' Tuba Concerto from 1954, the first instrumental concerto to feature a tuba as a solo instrument. Hofmeier proves, contrary to all clichés, how the tuba can shine with vivacity, lyricism and tenderness.

The concert concludes with Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy's Symphony No. 3 - a landscape set to music. Mendelssohn was inspired by the austerity of nature, mysticism and the stories he experienced on a trip to Scotland.

With the "Zuger Klassik Abo", the Zuger Sinfonietta and Theater Casino Zug | TMGZ bring exciting soloists and varied programs to Zug. After two successful seasons, the collaboration is now entering its third round. The orchestra invites you to travel to Great Britain and Norway and presents classics of orchestral literature. But you can also discover one or two modern works. In addition to chief conductor Daniel Huppert, two young, up-and-coming guest conductors will be on the podium for the concerts.
