The church was built between 1925 and 1927 as the first all-concrete church in Switzerland by architect Prof. Karl Moser and the construction company G. Doppler und Sohn in raw exposed concrete. On September 13, 1931, four years after completion, the church was consecrated by Bishop Joseph Ambühl. In the early years, the building was also mockingly referred to as the soul silo.

The ground plan of the church is rectangular and measures 60 by 22 meters. The height is 22 meters. The body of the church is completely integrated into multi-storey residential buildings on both sides, but stands out due to its higher ridge, the entrance section and the tower. The tower is 62 meters high, with the belfry alone measuring 12 meters with its five bells. There is a high concrete cross above it all.

Inside, everything is functionally designed. Eight slender concrete pillars support the barrel vault and the coffered flat ceilings of the narrow side aisles. Due to the confessionals inside, six cubes protrude slightly from the overall cube. The windows, each 4.80 m wide and 13.80 m high, are divided by three vertical and three horizontal concrete mullions and significantly shape the interior with their color and the resulting light effects.

The choir, probably the most architecturally unbalanced part, is not very spacious and is over-furnished. In contrast, the end of the choir loft and organ are more convincing.

All structural elements, inside and out, were left bare and unplastered.
