"Bike route": Freiburg - Payerne - Lucens

Bahnhof Freiburg, Fribourg

Note

This tour is a bike variant of one of the Way of St. James routes in Switzerland.

Starting from Freiburg, we have to decide whether we want to continue on the Gantrisch/Freiburg Way of St. James or choose this variant via Payerne. This first leads us through gently rolling fields and forests past Seedorf with the lake of the same name on the left and the château on the right to Noréaz. We then ride down into the Arbogne valley via field and forest paths, entering the Broye catchment area.
At the narrow valley entrance, we see the round tower of the Montagny les Monts castle ruins high on the left. A detour in this direction to the Catholic Church Immaculée Conception with beautiful frescoes and the stone statue of the Madonna is worthwhile, then we return to the valley.
Past the Church of Granges «Notre Dame de Tours» we reach Corcelles-près-Payerne and then Payerne itself. From here, we cycle along the left bank of the Broye on a flat path to Lucens, where we meet the Gantrisch/Freiburg Way of St. James again on the left slope near Curtilles.
